Summer Comfort in a Pot: Instant Rasam Rice

Rasam Rice

Rasam rice is a beloved South Indian dish, offering a delightful mix of tangy and spicy flavors. Ideal for a refreshing summer meal.

Ingredients List

Gather your ingredients: rice, lentils, oil, seeds, hing, chillies, curry leaves, garlic, tomato, onion, spices, and tamarind water. Let it cook until the flavors meld beautifully.

Cook Rice

Add rice and water to the pot. Cook until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.

Tempering Time

Prepare a tempering of curry leaves and red chillies. Once the rice is cooked, add the tempering and mix well. Garnish with coriander leaves and a squeeze of lemon for a zesty finish. Serve hot with ghee, pappad, and pickle.

Base Prep

Heat oil in a pot. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, cumin seeds, red chillies, crushed garlic, and asafoetida. Cook until it sputters.

Add Spices

Stir in chopped tomatoes, onions, turmeric, red pepper powder, and salt. Cook until soft and golden brown for rich flavors.

Tamarind Water

Pour in diluted tamarind water. Bring to a boil and simmer until the mixture thickens into a saucy consistency.
